Transport & Logistics

Together, transport and logistics companies make up the third-largest sector of the German economy. Germany is regarded as the leading logistics market in Europe. The reasons for the success of the German logistics industry include its central geographical location and the high quality of its services and infrastructure.

Among the segments of the German logistics market, contract logistics has by far the largest market volume. Its importance has steadily increased in recent years, as contract logistics, in contrast to other transport and logistics services, promises higher profitability margins and offers a greater degree of customisation of services.

The logistics sector is also facing far-reaching challenges. For example, the shortage of personnel, particularly among truck drivers, is limiting further growth. The industry is also under pressure to become more sustainable and efficient. The trend towards greater digitalisation is shaping the current and future development of the transport and logistics industry.

M&A is being used by numerous players in the transport and logistics industry as a strategy to master the challenges of the future (keyword: digitalisation), to continue looking for growth options and to expand their own range of services through acquisitions.
